The natural color balance of any image can be adjusted in Photoshop. You have a variety of tools at your disposal to customize colors, including two useful options called Curves and Color Balance.

Like Photoshop, Photoshop Elements has six ways you can edit images: Move, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Crop, Filters, and Adjustment Layers. By default, the image is straight on an infinite canvas, but you can bring it into a limited area by changing the Crop Mode to something other than “No Crop.” There is also a feature called “Smart Guides” (by default, an arrow pointing you in the correct direction) and you can add text to the image.

There are two ways to put a photo into Photoshop Elements: Open the image file and load it in as a new file, or open a file and click “File” > “Open.” If you want to remove an image from the current document, there’s a way to do that too, but it isn’t as straightforward as in Photoshop.

With a new image open, you can edit it in a variety of ways and add text and effects. When you save the image, Photoshop Elements asks you what kind of file you want to save it as (in the Pro version) and then saves that image in the format that file is in. The first image below is the original and the second one is where I save the file. Both files have the same pixel dimensions of 1024×768.

Load a new image file.

The first thing you’ll do when you open Photoshop Elements is to add a new image and start editing.

Click “File” and then “Open.”

If you are prompted for a location to save the file (by default, it’s “Save as”), you can search for a file name, browse for the location or click “use an existing file” and a file browser will open.
