SCHOOLS: Month-long musical programme set for Maringo-Bound students
Students of Itanyabo 1, Moroto 1, Moroto 2, Suramanyi and Nsamaudi School are set to benefit from a month-long musical programme.
The government-backed music workshop for Uganda’s Bollywood and Tollywood musicians has begun.
Five schools were selected to showcase their talents during the workshop slated for January 19 to January 21, according to the Uganda Media Centre.
Gabi Pare from Itanyabo 1, district municipality (DM) head, was speaking at the launch of the programme at Nsamaudi Secondary School in Nsamaudi Sub-county, which also will showcase its talent during the event.
The initiative targets youth and the youth representatives.
“We are so thankful that we got to participate in this programme,” Gabi said.
Mr Anele Nakirya, DM head, said that the schools will be given three technical assistance staff from the Department of Technical Education (DTE) for the duration of the programme.
“This is a risk-free process since it is implemented through schools which are supported by the Uganda Media Centre,” Anele said.
“The workshops will have an institutional backing with the cooperation of DTE and Uganda Media Centre,” Gabi said.
The schools were chosen from eight categories: Itanyabo 1, Itanyabo 2, Ihure Kansi, Oyo, Namasuba, Nyabigunde, Rimbi Sub-county and Kwekwe District.
The workshop aims to address the effect of mass culture on society through the medium of music and the arts, Gabi said.
“The workshop will teach culture and music and how to sing under the mentorship of well-known musicians and celebrities who know what to teach these kids,” he said.
Bollywood is mostly focused on the singing and the music of the film, while Tollywood is more focused on the dancing and the audience.
The programme also aims to assist female school-going children from the rural areas to access music training
