Photoshop is a multitouch environment, and it is the one image editing program that I like to design in (see Figure 6-1). I find it much more intuitive than to use my drawing tools (no pun intended) to create the graphic. The reason: My fingers are an artistic tool. They naturally want to manipulate the image.

Creating a Photoshop file

To create the PSD file, follow these steps:

1. Create a new document.

2. Create a new Image Size of 100 pixels × 100 pixels, or, if the image is larger than 100 pixels square, pick the appropriate size in the Type menu.

3. Place the image in the 100-pixel-wide area where the image will appear on your computer screen.

4. Save the new file. In this case, we saved it as `Rainbow.psd` so that the file is named `Rainbow.psd` in your photoshop files.

The name of the file doesn’t really matter, but I use all capital letters. The important thing to remember is that the file name is the same as the folder name in which the file is saved.

Editing Photos in Photoshop

Whether you’re using Photoshop to correct or simply to enhance your image, you can take advantage of the numerous different features of the program. The changes that you make can be performed by using either the tool bar at the bottom of the screen, or by right-clicking on any item within the image (see Figure 6-2).

TIP

If you want to navigate easily through your photo editor, use the hot keys at the bottom-right of the window. For example, for placing the color Picker at the color used in your image, press Ctrl+K and then choose the correct color.
