In the process of editing or modifying images, one may want to remove a portion of the image. This is done through the use of special image editing tools called masks. Photoshop Elements allows you to create two types of masks, including:

Bitmap masks.

Pixel masks.

Pixel and bitmap masks work in a similar manner. Both types of masks allow you to create areas that can be filled with color, and are either transparent or white. The difference lies in the type of mask they use.

Bitmap masks

The image was then colored using the same color. The result was a dark blue canvas with a number of splattered lines and dots.
