Final Fantasy XV was announced during Sony’s E3 Press Conference in June, showcasing not only the game’s stunning visuals but also a tease at its combat mechanics, where the player will be able to move like a dodgy ninja.
The E3 trailer also showed snippets of the game’s story, mainly focusing on the character of Noctis, the « prince » of the game and main playable character. In it, Noctis, who is voiced by British actor Sean Bean, explains to his sister, Ignis, and best friend, Prompto, that although he is the prince, he has no power and he only wants to protect those close to him.
Throughout his fight for survival, Noctis will recruit a number of allies to help him on his journey. These include Prompto, who is a skilled sniper, and Ignis, a magical creature who will be helping him in combat.
These three characters are joined by others including his dog, Cactuar, and cloud-dwelling, feminine-looking creature.
Other screenshots also show the game’s new combat mechanics. In one sequence, a fire-spitting cat can be seen trying to attack Noctis with a fire attack. Noctis, however, jumps into the air and then acts like a dodgy ninja. The cat falls over and is unable to perform the attack any more.
Final Fantasy XV does seem to be one of the most unique games around, and reviews praising its complexity and attention to detail are looking good. We don’t know yet whether the game’s visuals and story will live up to the promise of its E3 gameplay demonstration, but we’ll get
