Is it possible to write the’min’ function in a succinct way?

I have the following problem. I have two lists:
a = RandomChoice(1, 100)
b = RandomChoice(2, 100)

I want to create a list of the 100 smallest elements of both lists together. This is straight forward for the arithmetic of the two lists:
l = zip(a, b)
d = sorted(l)[:100]

I’m looking for a cleaner, more succinct way to get this functionality. I suspect there is a numpy function that can help, but in the documentation they use an extra’min’ function (that seemed unused in my usage). An answer to this question can help me to understand that stuff, so that I can build on it later.
