In Pidgin, enable plug-ins from the Plugins tab in the buddy list.
Restart Pidgin if it asks you to.

How AudibleAlerts Works:
If you have AudibleAlerts enabled in Pidgin, when you get a buddy IM, the AudibleAlerts program should tell you who is online and play a message to them. The AudibleAlerts program should find the buddy’s name from the buddy list and play the message to them based on that. It should make sense. If it doesn’t, make sure Pidgin is set to only display buddy names. If it still doesn’t work, make sure the buddy is online!

1. If you run Audible Alerts and tell it to « call out names of all people I talk to » it will not work. The reason is because Audible Alerts needs the title argument for the call_names command, but it will default to the title argument if you don’t supply it. Additionally, there is no way to have it default to your original buddy name, so you’ll have to set that to « @@:MyBuddy » if you want it to call out your original buddy name.
2. It seems to be very sensitive. I had trouble getting it to work for a while, because my buddy’s name was « Mr. . » (Please see my explanation for #1 above) After I changed it, it worked fine, but the problem is that it always calls out my other, fake, buddy (« Mr. Mr. . »)
