The only suggestion I can make is « make sure you get out of it what you’re going into ». If you’re going to a job « for free », be ready for it to end when you want it to.
Life’s too short and too precious to be working, begging, stealing, haggling for a « job ». If you enjoy your life, why not live it? So if I choose to, I can do all of this without being enslaved to these money making schemes, while still having a life outside them.
I wouldn’t wish anyone else to spend their life like this, either. But there are already people in full-time employment, yet at the dole. If they don’t want to do it, it’s their choice, surely? And I’m sure it’s because it’s made that choice, and they want to have a better life.
I don’t see the problem with including the statement that « It’s a lifestyle choice for many ». You can call it what you like, but if it’s a lifestyle choice, than no one is forcing anyone into being a career scammer and everything is their own choice.
As for the whole « job for life » thing, it’s a nice ideal but it isn’t realistic. If one has to deal with life’s ups and downs, it’s a matter of who is more important to you. Removing reference objects while not reusing their data
I’m using Java 7/8. I have an object (an Image) which I’m using as an input for one of my big image’s various processing algorithms. If the algorithm fails for whatever reason, I would like to just throw the reference away and re-create a new Image instance to hold the processed data.
The question is: when I’m processing a lot of images, will it be better performance wise to create a new object each time, or just retain a single « clean copy » object?
The reason why I’m not reusing my reference is because I would like to be able to cleanly destroy the Image object when the user closes my application. Otherwise, if I don’t clean up the objects, garbage collection will take care of that for me.

This depends on your particular scenario.
On the one hand, if the fact that the images being processed are « not clean copies » is a big issue, then it is probably best to be storing references to copies of the images.
This is easy to do in a concurrent programming scenario. However, it may not be as simple in a single-threaded (single-processing) application. If you can make sure that you’re not actually doing anything with the references once you store them, then you don’t need to worry about cleaning them up.
However, if the point of not storing a « clean copy » is to spare the effort of cleaning up the references when the image is no longer needed, then keeping a reference to the actual image could be wasteful.

The short answer is that a « clean copy » won’t speed things up in the long run. The long answer is that there is only one valid « clean copy » (though this isn’t necessarily the worst option).
