My Time Is Up
Recently, I stumbled across a YouTube video called “True Love is Greedy” by a woman named “Diversity Diva.” It talked about how black men are “greedy” and for them to earn a woman’s love and attention, they must do everything for her. But that’s not what I saw. It’s hard to explain, but I would hope that those of you who have women read your blogs or follow you on Twitter would be able to grasp my point. Sure, part of the message is about how men should be in charge. But another part is about how women should treat men, and the way they are taking advantage of men’s good nature and innocent nature.
What I saw was several men and women talk about how they would like to be manly and have certain qualities like “strength.” I also saw how they seemed to expect that men would come with all sorts of things, and that we would do everything for them. In this way, they would continue to perpetuate this myth that men and women are created equal.
Why do these men and women feel like men should always do the clean up and dishes and shopping? It’s a shock to me that women can even begin to think that way.
