Modern digital cameras produce large JPEG files which are normally far larger than needed or wanted when emailing them! With files at 5Mb or greater, it can take ages to send them, and to the annoyance of recipients, ages to receive them! ‘In the kitchen, we’ve always had a big pile of images saved up, as a safety net should something happen to our memory cards. But it hasn’t been easy to find a way to share these images with others via email, and we didn’t want to lose them to image saturation and fuzzy detail loss. With the Blackmagic Design camera, there is now a way – for images up to 50MB (megabytes) in size.
With our new program, you’ll be able to turn it into a portable utility to quickly save your images to memory cards in a standard format for email and office sharing.
In this version we have added the ability to automatically strip off the date from files, rename files and create attachments with new images. We have also added two new preview modes which provide a clear view of cropped content, instead of the default view which cuts off the image entirely.
A full help system has been added, and the language has been localised for Western Languages. This means you can have a library of images for your recordings, and it will be easier to send these to others via email.’
As a demonstration, I used a Canon EOS 500D with Digital Camera with Pan/Tilt, HD video and AVCHD, a Canon L lens and small (3MP) memory card. I tested the program with Canon A5 digital SLR, Canon 60D, Canon 7D, Canon EOS D7, Canon EOS S1, Canon EOS M and Canon XTi. It should work with any digital camera and for JPEG and TIFF files. There’s probably work to be done for RAW files.
It worked on every camera with at least 3MP and also with the Panasonic DMC-G1 (1.5MP). I recommend to test it.
