Selections are extremely useful to do advanced edits such as creating new layers, changing the brightness, contrast, colors or any other modifications that can be done in a single step.
Step 4: Layer
If you want to keep your work organized, layers are perfect for that. Layers allow you to separate elements and groups that you’ve selected or created in your edit. They let you apply multiple modifications to a single element, or preserve elements of the original image.
For example, you can select a new layer and apply a mask to it, creating a set of composites.
You can also have more than one type of layer, for example, a Layer and a Selection.
