If you’re sharing photos online or sending them to other people, use the enhanced TIFF format to save your image file. A PSD file is a compressed Photoshop file, and the only advantage of using one is that it takes up less space on your hard drive (reducing the number of gigabytes you can have and the number of photographs you can save).

Before you save your image file as either a Graphics Optimized or a PSD file, make sure that you select the 16-bit color depth.

When you save a Graphic Optimized file, the image appears in a window that contains all layers associated with that file. All layers appear in the upper portion of the screen, and your standard windows appear in the lower half. You can simply double-click the file icon to open it in Photoshop.
