What’s New in Photoshop CC 2018?
Can you tell we’re excited? We first spoke to Adobe back in 2016 about their creative suite, and the 2019 version has some upgrades you may like. Check out our previous coverage here.
The release of the 2019 upgrade is a huge milestone for the company as it brings Adobe Photoshop to version CC, a major update over the previous version, CS6.
The 2019 upgrade offers four primary changes, and Adobe has a look at all of them here:
An entirely new InDesign feature which finally allows you to design and print documents directly from your tablet or phone
Enhanced Crop tool for easily reducing images to a portion of your photo while maintaining the file’s full resolution
A host of new editing features for both images and text to save time, improve productivity and enable advanced manipulation
A powerful new layer function which reduces the need for clipping masks, fills and other workarounds
Image Editing with the Crop Tool
Photoshop CC 2019 is equipped with a new crop tool. Previously, working with crop tools required opening up a non-Photoshop image, only to crop in a separate app.
With Photoshop 2019, it’s just as easy to crop images within the application. As you click or tap on the image, select the crop tool, and move the corners, you’re presented with a menu to choose your intended area of the image to include.
As an added bonus, you can see a preview of the crop during your operations—this is handy when you’re in the midst of an editing session and need to get a real-time view of what will and won’t be included in your final product.
The new crop tool is incredibly powerful and helpful, allowing you to experiment with different areas and shapes in your images with ease. Furthermore, it is much faster than a clipping mask and will save you time when editing images.
It’s also impressive how « realistic » the crop tool actually looks. It looks more like an actual photograph than any other crop tool, making it an accurate representation of where you are cutting and how you are cutting. You can see an example of how it works in this video:
There are a few limitations on the crop tool:
Clipping masks and « smart objects » cannot be cropped (it doesn’t appear to support other objects, such as circles, for this method)
