The first time I held The Elder Scrolls V in my hands, I was tempted to cry. This was for me, an old RPG fan, the first ever Elder Scrolls game that was real. Up until now, I had never really thought about the fact that I would be able to play the first game in an upcoming series until the first time I held it. Thinking back, I wish I had been more aware of the fact that I was holding the soul of an RPG, the first game I had been hoping to play. I was happily crying as if I had been in front of a vending machine.

To avoid getting too emotional, I’ll quickly go into the things I was most excited about as I was first imagining it in my head.

– The world!

The first thing I thought about when I first saw images of the newly generated world was how beautiful it looked. The result of a revolutionary new technology that the studio had created to be able to interact directly with a 3D graphics engine for the first time in the series. The world looked stunning. The real-time texturing combined with the fact that they were able to generate the massive land area one by one also looked awesome.

This was the first time for a series that I had been able to play with that kind of scale.

– The characters!

The first thing that I thought about was how well they would look as they fought in the battles. Once again, a revolutionary ability had allowed them to create new characters. A lot of people who played RPGs were familiar with having their characters become a part of the ground, as well as having their voices change when they yelled. However, in the Elder Scrolls the ability to customize how you created the characters in real time had been applied to the fighters directly as they fought, along with their movements as they fought.

What was fantastic about it was that the enemies they were fighting weren’t based on the basic fantasy monsters. Instead, the enemies they fought were entirely unique characters that had their own battle techniques.

This meant that the battles were unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

– The dungeons!

The parts that I was most excited about were the dungeons. The dungeons had been one of my most favorite things in many old RPGs. In Elder Scrolls, the dungeons that one could explore were unlike anything I
