1. Open Your Photo

The first thing you need to do is open up a photo.

2. Add a New Layer

Once you have opened up your photo, you need to create a new layer and name it. To add a new layer do this:

Click on the layer palette or left-click on the layer you want to make new

Now, on the right, you’ll see that you now have an empty layer. Drag and drop that layer on the left into the window on the right. That’s it. You’ve now got a new layer that contains your photo and can go through the rest of the steps for editing.

Tip: You could also copy and paste the image you want to use onto the new layer.

3. Rasterize

Rasterizing your image means you’re going to make the image pixel-based. In Photoshop, you do this by clicking on the layer that contains your photo and checking the Rasterize Layer box:

Tip: to activate the layers, just double click on the layer, not on the document.
