Understanding Photoshop’s Layered System

Photoshop uses a layer-based editing system (see Figure 1-1). A new file or document starts life as one or more layers with no visible effect. When you add a new layer, you see an icon, which you can manipulate to shape your image. You can duplicate layers or merge layers (applying them together) and combine layers (choosing an overlaid effect). You can also make specific layers transparent (see the upcoming « Transforming Layers » sidebar) to alter the final outcome of your image.

Photoshop also enables you to work with selections, which are areas of your image that you can turn into special layers. Creating a selection involves holding down the Shift key and dragging a selection tool across your image so that it traces out the area you want to select. Once you have a selection, you can then use your selection to alter your image by painting on the selection and then combining multiple selections together to make even larger areas (see Chapter 9 for more about selections).

Creating a new file or document

When you create a new file or document in Photoshop, it starts as one or more layers.

You can add a new document or file in three ways:

* Choose New from the File menu to create a new image.
* Click the New button on the Windows taskbar at the bottom of your screen, or press Alt+Ctrl+N (Mac) to open the New dialog box, and then enter a file name.

Elements vs Photoshop (File Format)

File Format

As of September 2017, the biggest difference between the file types in the two products is that Photoshop Elements uses PSD (Photoshop Document) files while Photoshop uses Photoshop files. Both products support PC and Mac operating systems and can be accessed through web browsers.

Looking at a few features of the two products, it’s clear to see that they are very different. Photoshop is more expensive, has more features (although not required for most users) and a more advanced user interface.

Those who do not have access to Photoshop will be able to use Photoshop Elements for most day-to-day needs and it is generally the first choice of many users.

The Elements

To access the features, click on the Help menu at the top of the screen. This will bring up the help button and links to a detailed help manual for beginners. You can also access help online in case you are experiencing a problem with the software.

The number of available options at the top of the screen are also there when you are editing a new image, but not when opening an existing image. You can access this information by clicking the rectangle in the bottom right corner of the image window.

Elements has most of the common features of other graphics editors such as iPhoto, Picasa and Flickr. Many of these features do not require Photoshop skills at all. However, Photoshop does provide much more advanced features and can be used for more advanced tasks like crop, rotate and retouch photos.

Elements will not do the work for you, it is designed to be used in conjunction with Photoshop.

The Documents

When you open an image, the Elements menu will offer you some options to find similar images from your camera roll or the web. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, the website may be slow to load but, once loaded, will use your computer’s web browser to find similar images in the same location.

Elements will not access photos from your camera or computer. It will not index photos taken with another camera or stored on a computer.

Populating text box using button click in javascript

I have a button called Modify SalesOrder which when clicked opens up a new window with a form. In this form there is a text box which should be populated with the Id of the user. I have tried the following but it is not working –

On my js page I have the following –
var recordId = $(‘input[name= »id »]’).val();

which works fine but on the window which opens up if i try to use the text box with $(‘input[name= »id »]’).val() it doesn’t work.
what am i doing wrong? please help!

You’re using {{}} interpolation to turn out the value attribute from the view, however you cannot pass it directly in a script injection.
If I assume you’re using Bootstrap Modal – since you’re creating a new modal window, you have to use Bootstrap specific code to achieve this kind of behavior (modal(« show »,{title: « my Modal Window »})) – refer to this answer, even though the question is asked using AngularJS (you don’t need to add extra scripts, it’s done automatically).
So your javacript code would be something like this:
