Resize UISearchBar when keyboard is shown

I’m trying to accomplish what one can do with the UITableView in iOS 8 when the keyboard is shown. I.e., that the UISearchBar is resized (by changing the frame) so that it’s roughly the same size as it’s UITableView. In iOS 7, I can accomplish this with this code in viewWillLayoutSubviews:
UISearchBar *searchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] init];
CGRect frame = searchBar.frame;
frame.size.height = searchBar.contentSize.height;
searchBar.frame = frame;

But in iOS 8, this isn’t working. I can change the frame of the UISearchBar, but when I do, I either get a black bar or the UISearchBar expands itself and exceeds the bounds of the view.
