How can I ensure transaction safety with conditional inserts with single column indexes?
I need to perform a conditional insert of records into a SQL Server 2008 R2 database. There is a single column index on that column. I would prefer to have this inside of a transaction to help ensure only the committed statements are written. I can’t quite figure out how to ensure this though. It would appear that the statement is locking the entire table even though the rows are being inserted with the conditional INSERT INTO.
